Valamis is a social learning environment for sharing and receiving knowledge. We want to help people to share knowledge and learn using Liferay platform. You can use it as your organizations social learning environment. You can also use it to encourage individuals collaboratively to share tacit knowledge which cannot be found from books, but which is a combination of experience and wisdom. Our goal is to get people to talk to each other, learn from each other regardless of time and physical location with the help of Valamis environment.

    2.6 The new release includes new features, especially for Lesson Studio, and general UX improvement. One of the biggest changes has been done to Lesson Studio, which now enables responsive content design for three device types: mobile, tablet and desktop. Other features and improvements include, for example, managing studio elements and slide titles, using Liferay articles as text element and arranging lessons manually. Moreover, importing questions from Moodle to Valamis environment is now possible.     2.0 Our design principles for Valamis 2.0 have been the most important technology trends in online learning for 2014. Responsive design, Mobile learning, xAPI, Learning Analytics, Gamification and Social Learning. All this natively within the most powerful Portal Platform, Liferay. Valamis 2.0 has an total overhaul of Valamis UI into fully responsive design. At the same time we've moved entire Valamis back-end, which was built to support SCORM standard for eLearning, to support xAPI or Experience API (formerly known as Tin Can API). These are big changes, but same time it allows us to look past the limitations of SCORM and Learning Management Systems.

This functionality allows to create learning goals using Liferay social activities. You can set a achievement goal for student to write a blog post, comment on articles and wiki changes.     1.5.1 Valamis 1.5.1 boasts various new features and improvements. Curriculum feature has been improved dramatically. It now integrates also to Open Badges and provides a Badge Designer feature with the help of a third party application. Valamis 1.5.1 has also Tin Can API support. You can upload and play Tin Can packages in Valamis Player. For this you have to configure Tin Can API LRS from Valamis Admin. Tin Can implementation supports basic authentication. There are also other various fixes and improvements to all of the components.

    1.4.5 Valamis 1.4.5 has a brand new Curriculum portlet. You can combine Liferay sites (courses) to a learning path or a certification. This allows users to choose their next courses and manage their course enrollment information. This functions also as a certification registry for organizations. New version also adds demo hook and course template. If you are familiar with Liferya's 7cogs sample site, you should be home with Valamis demo hook as well. It also contains a site template, which you can use to get your eLearning environment running just few minutes after installation. Update has also small improvements and bugfixes to player, quiz, exam and gradebook tools. 1.4.5 has PACL disabled as default. You can enable it with Tomcat, but there are known issues with PACL on Liferay JBoss or Glassfish bundles.

    Installation Instructions

    This is a Legacy App that is no longer available in the new App Marketplace. You are able to acquire it from your installed DXP or CE instance and install it by following the instructions below.

    Acquiring this App through the legacy Liferay Portal Store

    1. Review app documentation for any specific installation instructions.
    2. Login to your Liferay Portal instance with administrative permissions.
    3. Navigate to the Control Panel, Marketplace (or Apps for 7.3 and prior), then Store.
    4. If needed, login to your Liferay.com account by choosing Sign In.
    5. Search for the app name in the Search dialog.
    6. Once the app is found, click on the app in the search results.
    7. On the app details page, choose to acquire the app by selecting the Free, Buy, or Trial button.
    8. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the acquisition.

    Installing this App through legacy Liferay Portal Purchased Apps

    1. After acquiring the app, login to your Liferay Portal instance with administrative permissions.
    2. Navigate to the Control Panel, Marketplace (or Apps for 7.3 and prior), then Purchased.
    3. If needed, login to your Liferay.com account by choosing Sign In.
    4. Click the Install button to install your app on your Liferay Portal instance.
