LOS ANGELES, CA – (November 9, 2023) – Liferay Inc., the developer of the world’s most flexible digital experience platform, today announced that Founder and Chief Software Architect Brian Chan has been named CEO. Former CEO Bryan Cheung will transition to serving as Chief Marketing Officer and a member of the company’s board of directors. Chief Sales Officer Brian Kim will also transition to serving on the company’s board of directors.
The announcement comes at an exciting time for the company, with the past year having seen the launch of Liferay Experience Cloud, Liferay’s first SaaS offering, Liferay being named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Hybrid Headless Content Management System 2023 Vendor Assessment, and the unveiling of the company’s new partner first strategy.

Brian Chan founded Liferay in 2004 and served as the company’s first CEO. Prior to founding Liferay, Brian spent several years building the open source Liferay Portal, the foundation of today’s Liferay Digital Experience Platform. Brian has served as Liferay’s Chief Software Architect for the past 17 years, leading the company’s technical teams in developing innovative solutions for customers.
